Regenerative Design 2026: Case Studies

Over 100 practices from the Regenerative Architecture Index 2026 each present a case study that exemplifies their work to move towards a regenerative future. Projects range from a wildlife tower for the Somerset Wildlife Trust to an ecological and urban regeneration corridor at the border between Cambodia and Thailand, designed to heal and nurture a regenerative future for an area devastated by 20 years of conflict between the Cambodian government and the Khmer Rouge.

Reinventing Practice

A series of portraits of organisations working to accelerate the transition towards a regenerative construction industry by leading architectural photographer Timothy Soar. Each photograph is accompanied by an interview discussing the challenges involved in reinventing the way we work to deliver projects that respect and enrich our relationship with the natural world and are beneficial for society and the environment now and for generations to come.

Wildheart: The Bears

Immersive screens offer real-size, real-time live webcam footage of the bear enclosure at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary at Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The bears – Benji and Baloo – were rescued from Azerbaijan, where they were kept in cages outside a restaurant as entertainment for customers. They are now recuperating at Wildheart, in a habitat that allows them to be bears again.

The sanctuary has worked closely with the Regenerative Architecture Index since its launch in 2023, collaborating on a competition – won by Marks Barfield Architects – to select an architect for the design of the world’s first Biosphere School and working with RAI members Atelier One Engineers to design and build a shelter for the bears.
